Nissan GT-R Smacks Ferrari 458 on the Highway, But Fails Miserably on a Twisty Road

The Nissan GT-R is something like a poor-man's supercar – and there is nothing wrong with that in our book. It has beaten/embarrassed vehicles costing several times as much on more occasions that we can care to remember.
However, sometimes we tend to forget that being fast is as much about the car as it is about the driver. Case in point, a friendly road race between an SP Engineering-prepped Nissan GT-R and a Ferrari 458 Italia.

While the driver of the Godzilla has no problem tearing apart Maranello's V8-powered supercar in a straight-line duel on the highway, it’s a completely different story when the two cars enter a twisty side road… Watch the video for yourself after the break.

Magnifico! Ferrari Brings F40 and 599 GTB Together for a Whimsical Duel

From time to time, automakers manage to overcome their crippling fear of being creative and actually produce something that's original and interesting for viewers. The video you're about to see is one such rare example.
Titled "Duel for the Crown – Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano", the short video, which is close to 4 minutes-long, shows Maranello's modern V12-powered gran turismo going up against the classic and still beautiful F40 that was built in limited numbers from 1987 to 1992.
Hop over the break to enjoy the clip and don't forget to power up the volume of your speakers...

Cadillac Challenges Mercedes-Benz by Pitting the Escalade Against the C-Class [Video]

We think most of you will agree with us when we say that, for the same reasons the Cadillac Escalade is extremely profitable, it also doesn't quite fit the brand's current image being sort of a throwback to the glory days of the classic American cruiserships.
But this didn't stop General Motors from raising the ante in yet another provocative commercial for Cadillac that follows the CTS-V spot featuring the Ferrari 458 Italia.

This time, the General took the Escalade and pointed its ammo towards Mercedes-Benz and its C-Class sedan. The video spot shows the big Caddy V8 beating the C300 on a straight line duel, and then…hauling back the Merc.

We're not going to say that we didn't enjoy the video nor that we don't get Cadillac's point, but it's somewhat an unfair comparo when the Escalade starts at $63,200, or about $25k more than the C300. Heck, even the almighty C63 AMG with is 451HP V8 is $5k cheaper than the basic Escalade…

NFS Brings in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Models for Upcoming Game [with Videos]

Once upon a time, fast cars and increasingly realistic graphics were more than enough to draw in the gaming crowds but boys will always be boys and a bit of female skin is sure to set the heart racing…
With the competition in the gaming industry heating up, the creators of the Need for Speed [NFS] franchise decided it was time to call in the big guns, forming a new partnership with Sports Illustrated for their upcoming release called "NFS: The Run".

The deal between the two companies will see 2011 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Cover model Irina Shayk and Swimsuit model Chrissy Teigen play guest starring roles in the game.

“We’re thrilled to be working with Sports Illustrated to deliver the biggest, fastest, and sexiest entertainment event of the holiday with Need for Speed The Run,” said Steve Seabolt, Vice President of Global Brand Partnerships at EA.

“Gamers, racers and Sports Illustrated Swimsuit aficionados alike will love seeing Irina and Chrissy transform from the physical to the digital world, playing lifelong friends competing in a heart-pounding race from San Francisco to New York,” Seabolt added.

The new Need for Speed game is due for release in North America on November 15 and in Europe on November 17, and will be available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation3, PC, Wii and Nintendo 3DS systems.

But until then, you can scroll down and get a taste of the game in the new teaser trailer as well as the behind the scenes video.

Found For Sale: Cool 1965 Ford Mustang Shooting Brake

Like Bigfoot or the Loch Ness Monster, the Ford Mustang Station Wagon is an elusive beast often spoken of but rarely seen.
The story goes that J. Walter Thompson advertising executive Barney Clark and designer Bob Cumberford commission the Italian coachbuilding firm Intermeccanica to build a one-off shooting brake in 1965. Heck, it even appeared on the cover of the October 1966 issue of Car and Driver.

This is not that car, but a very nice replica by a man named Joe Kamp. Based on a 1965 Ford Mustang hardtop, Mr. Kamp cut, lengthened and widened the roof to make the distinctive shooting brake rear end.

GM Debuts Automotive Industry's First Front Center Air Bag

Someone once said that in the future, the inner works of our vehicles after a crash will look like a balloon party – sans the bright colors. And true enough, after the front, side, roof, knee, rear curtain and seat-belt airbags, automakers have now discovered another area of the car that can be fitted with an inflatable bag for our protection: the center.
Following Toyota's presentation of the first production rear-seat center airbag on the Japanese domestic market Crown Majesta in 2009, General Motors is introducing the automotive industry's first front center air bag, designed to protect the driver and front passenger in far-side impact crashes.

The new safety feature will make its production debut on the Buick Enclave, GMC Acadia, and Chevrolet Traverse midsize crossovers starting from the 2013 model year. It will be standard on Acadia and Traverse with power seats and all Enclaves.

“While no restraint technology can address all body regions or all potential injuries, the front center air bag is designed to work with the other air bags and safety belts in the vehicles to collectively deliver an even more comprehensive occupant restraint system,” said Gay Kent, GM executive director of Vehicle Safety and Crashworthiness.

GM says that the front center air bag deploys from the right side of the driver’s seat and can protect the driver during passenger-side crashes when he is the only occupant of the car while also acting as an energy-absorbing cushion between driver and front passenger in both driver- and passenger-side crashes.

The company added that the airbag is also expected to provide safety benefits in rollover accidents.

According to GM's analysis of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System database, "far-side impact crashes, which the front center airbag primarily addresses, accounted for 11 percent of the belted front occupant fatalities in non-rollover impacts between 2004 and 2009 involving 1999 model year or newer vehicles."

You can see the front center airbag in action in the video after the break.

VW Boss Caught on Film Impressed by the Hyundai i30’s Quality, Displeased with his Staff

Up until now, we were used to seeing Japanese and later on, Korean and Chinese executives measuring and taking pictures of every detail of their rivals’ cars at major auto shows.
But now the tables have turned, and in a big way: at the recent Frankfurt Motor Show we saw none other than VW CEO, Martin Winterkorn himself, examine Hyundai’s newest C-segment hatchback, the i30.

And boy was he impressed with the i30’s quality…But at the same time, he seemed to be frustrated by the work his own staff is doing in VW Group models. “I hear nothing!” Winterkorn said about the absence of any rattles while adjusting the steering wheel. “How did they do it?," he continued.

Clearly, the answer he got, that there is a solution but it’s too expensive, wasn’t good enough: “Why can’t we do it? BMW doesn’t know how, we don’t know how!”

Wow! BMW and VW outperformed in quality by Hyundai’s humble C-segment model? If that's not a surprise, we don't know what is…

Then, of all things, Winterkorn asked for a tape measure (!) and started checking the shut lines around the i30's A-pillar.

Who would have thought that the Germans envy the Koreans for their superior interior quality! We bet right now Hyundai is feeling very flattered – and in Wolfsburg there is a lot of explaining to do. You can watch the video after the jump.

Video: Here's Why a Three-some Wheelie is a Very Bad Idea

I think it's safe to say that at one point or another, we've all done something senseless on two or four wheels, especially at a younger age.
But seriously now, who in their right mind would attempt a wheelie on a motorized bicycle motorcycle on the move with three men on board? Guess they got what they were looking for….

Dodge Unleashes Video of Viper SRT10 ACR Reclaiming Position from Lexus LFA at the 'Ring with 7:12.13

A couple of weeks ago, Dodge brought its street-legal, but now discontinued, 2010 Viper SRT10 ACR to the Nürburgring racetrack to set the record straight – literally.
In 2008, while the sports car was still in production, the Viper SRT10 ACR turned the 'Ring in 7:22.10, which at the time made it the fifth fastest production car in the world, according to the figures listed on Wikipedia.

Since then, however, many production vehicles posted better times including the Lexus LFA Nürburgring Edition with 7:14.64 on August 31, 2011, which placed it in fourth position behind the Radical SR8 LM (6:48), Radical SR8 (6:55) and the Gumpert Apollo Sport (7:11.57).

New Disney Toy Cars Physically Interact with Apple's iPad

Some of you probably grew up playing only with actual toys, while others (like yours truly) had the opportunity to play with both electronic games and real life toys in their childhood before technology cast its shade over the physical world introducing the next generations of kids to the sofa couch virtual wonders of gaming.
Now, Disney is trying to bridge the physical and virtual gaming worlds with a new range of toys called Appmates, which can interact directly with apps on Apple's iPad tablet. The new toy line allows kids to use the tablet's screen as a virtual play mat.

The boys are the first to get the new toys as AppMATes is launching with Pixar's Cars. The lineup includes the vehicle-characters from the Cars 2 movie.

"We have cracked the technology code in changing the way kids play with their toys," said Sunny Lauridsen, director of digital toys for DCP. "Kids will always use toys to play out their favorite Disney stories, but Disney Appmates now allows them to include technology which has become a way of life for them through a beautifully rich app."

The Disney Appmates toys will go on sale on October 1, with pricing set at $19,99 for a package with two vehicles, while the app will be offered as a free download through Apple's iTunes.

Ad Watch: Nissan's Redonkulous Frontier TV Spot

Most commercials should be taken with a pinch of salt, but sometimes advertisers outdo themselves in silliness. In Nissan's case, the Japanese automaker wanted to convey the message that the Frontier is a "mid-size truck that acts like a full size, giving the driver the feeling they can tackle any obstacle".
And how did Nissan's advertising agency deliver the message? With a Nissan Frontier intervening and saving the day when a passenger airplane's front landing gear jams…

Of course, there's the usual but barely noticeable "Fictionalization. Do not attempt" footnote on the right hand corner. You can watch the ad in the

Video: In China, the Ride Goes on Even if You're Missing a Wheel…

Albert Einstein once said, "Life is like riding a bicycle, to keep your balance you must keep moving".
Apparently, this Chinese rider took the famed theoretical physicist’s saying a bit too seriously when he lost the front wheel of his bicycle. You can check the video for yourself right after the break.

Video: Chevy Camaro Dragster's Rear Axle Snaps at Lift-Off

One of the scariest things that can happen to a racer on the drag strip (or during any motorsport-related event, for that matter), is a serious mechanical failure as even the slightest problem can have disastrous consequences when you're moving at high-speeds.
For the driver of this first generation Chevrolet Camaro dragster, it all started with the first run when he lost control of the car and hit the sidewall.

Evidently, the driver and/or his team did not take a look or they failed to see that the car suffered significant damages when it collided with the cement wall. As a result, during the second run, the rear axle completely snapped off!

Luckily for the driver, it all went down about a second after he began accelerating, because if this happened a few seconds later, he would have been in serious trouble.

Nissan GT-R Takes on the Bugatti Veyron and the Porsche 911 Turbo S in Straight Line Duel

Not to leave Motor Trend's recent speed challenge unanswered, rivaling car magazine Road and Track brought the 2012 Nissan GT-R on the race track to see if it qualifies to enter the so-called "Two Second Club" which refers to vehicles that are able to break the 0-60mph (96km/h) sprint in under 3 seconds.
As pointed out by the magazine, few standard production cars can manage this feat - even the Corvette ZR1 fails to do so with a sprint time of 3.5 seconds, while the exotic Ferrari 458 Italia comes close, but does not make the cut at 3.0 seconds flat.

The 530-horsepower 2012 Nissan GT-R with a dirt cheap price tag (for this type of sports car) of $89,950, was put up against the Porsche 911 Turbo S, also with 530HP but with an MSRP of $160,700, and one of the most exclusive and powerful production cars in the world, the $2.8 million Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport with a mind-boggling 1,183-horses.

Jackasses on Wheels and with Guns Terrorize Middle East Drivers [Video]

There's hooning. And then there's criminal hooning. These particular individuals shown in the video after the break no doubt belong to the second category with their idiotically dangerous antics.
Filmed somewhere in the Middle East (possibly in Saudi Arabia if we are to believe the Youtube commentators), the 10-minute long clip primarily focuses on the "achievements" of the driver and passengers of a silver Honda Accord and to a lesser extent, the crew in a Toyota Camry.

As if waving guns and shooting in the air on a public road isn't dumb enough, the wannabe drifters terrorize all the rest of the drivers throwing the Accord in front of passenger cars, trucks and even near a school bus.

But don't take our word for it, watch it four yourself in the video below.

IAA 2011: C-X16 Production Concept is “The Future of Jaguar Sports Cars”

Jaguar is so far under-performing, recording a 27% sales drop in the first quarter of the year. Indian owner Tata Motors is determined though to turn its fortunes around by investing US$2.5 billion annually for the next five years in the British luxury carmaker and its Land Rover stable mate in order to develop 40 new models and variants.
A spiritual successor to the legendary E-Type is certainly a good start: a modern sports coupe along with a roadster variant boasting compact dimensions and 21st century design and driving dynamics. This is exactly Jaguar’s main attraction at the 64th Frankfurt Motor Show: the C-X16 “production concept”, as the study is officially named, clearly pointing at a road-going model.

Video: Russian Girls Just Wanna Have Fun...in the Car [NSFW]

Though we like to assume that we're fairly open when it comes to music, we must admit that we've never had the chance to look [pun intended] at the lovely voices of the trio of girls that form the Russian pop group Serebar Serebro - or if we did, we never knew it was them, in which case, shame on us.
But thanks to an extremely educating video of what not to do while traveling in the car, we were obligated to share this new music clip of Elena Temnikova, Olga Seryabkina and Anastasia Karpova – or at least that's the name of the singers listed on the all-knowing Wikipedia.

Tata Nano: World's Most Affordable Car Receives a $4.6 million Gold Treatment [with Videos]

When Ratan Tata revealed the $2,500 Nano mini car in India in January 2008, the owner and Chairman of Tata Motors, made headlines the world over with the world’s cheapest car.
Three years later the Nano has faced a spontaneous-combusting debacle while despite the booming Indian car market; its sales have dropped significantly. So Tata decided to do a little publicity stand in order to bring its car once again into the spotlight.

Now, going from $2,500 to $4.6 million is quite a stretch. But that is exactly what the Indian carmaker has done with the Goldplus: it has encrusted a Nano with 194 lbs. (80 kg) of gold, 33 lbs. (15 kg) of silver and more gemstones that we can count.

The company will display this bling edition of the Nano in its various Indian dealerships for the next six months in its effort to rekindle customers’ interest in its core model.

Maybe if there is an Indian version of 50 Cent or Akon, they can persuade him to use it in one of its video clips as well.

Video: Lamborghini Aventador vs Gallardo Spyder vs Ferrari 360 Modena

If it where any other type of cars, we'd probably skip this vide altogether, but it’s not every day that you see a spanking new Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 getting ready to eat sprint race a Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder and Coupe, a Ferrari 360 Modena Spider and the tail of the bunch, a BMW M3 Coupe E46.
Of course there's a matter of who's driving the Italian supercars and what condition they're in, but it looks like the Aventador and the LP 560-4 Spyder pretty much smoked the rest.

Bring in the Light: BMW 7-Series with Glowing Rims

We are not sure if we should call this mod cool or way over the top, but the glowing rims on the Bangle-era BMW 7-Series saloon certainly captured our attention, which was probably why the owner of the vehicle put them on in the first place.

Cowboys and F1 Drivers: Red Bull Racing Saddles Up for Texas F1

So how do you promote a Formula One race in the United States? Well, depends on whom you ask. For Red Bull Racing, the answer to that question is a bizarre mixture of lasso-wielding cowboys, helicopters, former F1 driver David Coulthard and an F1 racecar doing donuts on a rural dirt road in Texas.
For those not up to date with the F1 developments, Austin Texas will serve as the host city of the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix from 2012 through 2021.

The event will take place at a new racetrack that is currently under construction near Austin.

As with any new BMW, the latest V8-powered M5 F10 comes packed with an array of gadgets and gimmicky features, some of which you may like, some of which you may not.
One of the sports saloon's new features that may dismay purists is the Active Sound Design. To explain, this system is designed to –according to BMW- "accurately replicate" the sounds of the bi-turbocharged V8 engines inside the cabin through the vehicle's audio system.

BMW says that the electronically controlled system evenly spreads the sound across all five seats and that it takes into consideration a variety of factors including the performance mode settings. More details on the new feature in the press blurb after the jump.

Why You Shouldn't Buy a Fake Nardi Steering Wheel

An online aftermarket shop in Britain named Driftworks released a humorous video to inform consumers on why they should avoid buying cheap knockoffs from the internet.
After buying a fake Nardi-style steering wheel for about £70 (US$108 / €80) on eBay, compared to around £220 (US$338 / €252) for a genuine, made in Italy Nardi wheel, they put it to the test fitting it on a Nissan 200SX laying around in their garage.

As for the results, well, let's just say the faux Nardi wouldn't make the cut for a replacement on your Logitech G25 wheel, let alone your car… Video follows after the break.

New BMW M5 F10 in an Individual Frozen Black Hue: What do You Think?

Ever since BMW first showed the new M5 sports saloon earlier in the summer, and sans a white example that appeared at the firm's Frankfurt Motors show stand, the Bavarians have been constantly tossing around press pictures of the car in the Monte Carlo racing blue hue.
Cool as it may be at first, over time and after a gazillion or so images of the M5 F10 in the same Monte Carlo color, we think we've just about had enough.

But fear not, the Bavarian-loving guys from 5Post have obtained new photos of the V8-powered sports sedan finished in an Individual Frozen Black hue.

While it's a first for the F10, regular readers may remember that we saw the same Individual color applied on the North American M3 Coupe special edition released back in June.

Almost everyone who has laid eyes on the Ferrari 458 Italia's bodywork will agree that it is a work of art. Even though Ferrari’s people claim that it was function, and especially aerodynamics, that dictated many elements of the 458 Italia's shape, it is perhaps one of the most striking supercars currently on sale along with the Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4.
