Stoner Shines

Aragon proved to be a hard battle for both Ducati riders with both of them finishing with Nicky Hayden finishing seventh and Valentino Rossi coming tenth. At qualifying it was Casey Stoner who came in at pole followed by teammate Dani Pedrosa and Ben Spies. Jorge Lorenzo , Andrea Dovizioso and Marco Simoncelli completed the second row. Rossi meanwhile suffered a fall early during qualifying and had to settle for thirteenth place on the grid. However Rossi still had to start from the pit lane since Yamaha chose to do a last minute engine swap.
As the race got under way the Honda’s in the special livery seemed to be clearly on a good rhythm both Stoner and Pedrosa completed a 1-2 win for Repsol Honda Racing giving the team their 100th victory. The Yamaha Factory team completed the podium with Lorenzo, after having lost his fourth place, fought back to pass Marco Simoncelli and Ben Spies. Meanwhile, Rossi fought back from his pit lane start to ninth place but eventually lost one place to Cal Crutchlow and had to settle for tenth place.
Stoner’s victory means he has now extended his lead over Lorenzo by 44 points to 284, with Dovizioso coming in third with 185 points. The Grand Prix now moves to Motegi, Japan for round 15 on September 30.
