BMW announced that the third generation of its GT model, the 6-Series Coupe that was launched last April at the Shanghai Motor Show, is now available to order in the UK with sales starting on October 15.
The 2+2 luxury coupe will be offered with three engine, including two gasoline units and a turbo diesel, all fitted with BMW’s fuel-saving EfficientDynamics technology.
The 640d, which is expected to account for nearly 90% of all 6-Series UK sales, is powered by an in-line six-cylinder twin turbocharged diesel engine delivering 313HP and 630 Nm (464.6lb-ft) of torque that are transferred to the rear wheels via an eight-speed auto gearbox.
It accelerates from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 5.5 seconds and reaches an electronically-limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). Despite the performance, average consumption is just 51.4 mpg UK (5.5 lt/100 km, 42.8 mpg US) and CO2 emissions don’t exceed 145 g/km.

Buyers who prefer their 6-Series to be powered by gasoline have two options: the 640i and the 650i, both of which are offered solely with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The 640i Coupe is powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged in-line six-cylinder producing 320HP and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft). It accelerates from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) one tenth of a second faster than the 640d at 5.4 seconds while the electronic watchdog makes sure that the top speed 155mph. Naturally, it's less fuel-efficient than the diesel, with an average consumption of 36.2 mpg UK (7.8 lt/100 km, 30.1 mpg US) and it emits 181g of CO2 per km.

The top-of-the-line 650i has a 4.4-liter eight-cylinder under its bonnet. Thanks to the two turbochargers, it develops 407HP and 600 Nm (442.5 lb-ft), allowing the coupe to accelerate from a standstill to 62 mph in 4.9 seconds and reach an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). Fuel consumption is 26.5 mpg UK (10.6 lt/100 km, 22.0 mpg US) and CO2 emissions stand at 246g/km.

The optional M Sport specification adds M-Division’s aerodynamic package, high-gloss “Shadowline” exterior trim, black brake calipers, 19-inch M alloy wheels and dark chrome exhaust pipes on the exterior, while the interior features sports seats, M Sport steering wheel, anthracite headling and aluminum trim.

Of course, there will be a long list of optional equipment including night vision with pedestrian recognition, lane change departure warning system and a Head-Up Display.
