Chevrolet Turns 100-Years Old, Aims to Celebrate with New Sales Record this Year

Industrialist William C. Durant and Swiss-born racecar driver Louis Chevrolet founded theChevrolet brand in 1911, building their first automobile in a rented garage in Detroit. One hundred years and 209 million vehicles, Chevrolet is present in more than 140 countries.

Although in past decades Chevrolet was mostly confined within the American continent, today it is a global brand selling more than 60% of its total production outside the U.S.
In 2010, Chevrolet had its best year ever with 4.26 million sales – a record that’s bound to break this year, giving the tone for the brand’s centenary celebrations.

“Like many of the strongest global brands, Chevrolet is founded in American values that are admired around the world”, said vice president for global marketing and strategy Chris Perry.
“Our goal is to build on the foundation laid in our first hundred years to make it a hometown brand in home towns around the world”, he added. “Chevrolet starts its second century with its best product line-up ever and strong growth in major markets in Asia, Europe and South America.”
