Say Again? Saab 9-5 Sedan 2.8V6 Turbo Named Car of the Year in Singapore

Unless you're one of those chaps that wear theirSaab shades no matter what happens, the news that the 9-5 Sedan 2.8V6 Turbo has been named Car of the Year by a Consumer Guide, published by Wheels Asia in Singapore, can only provoke giggles.

And we say this not because the 9-5 is a bad car, but how can you possibly give a top recommendation (remember, this isn't a comparobut a Consumers Guide) to any vehicle from an automaker that has barely produced a car in the past six months and which recently went under bankruptcy protection and its future is clearly on the line?

Saab of course, was delighted with the award and issued this statement:
"The annual 'Car Buyer's Guide 2011/2012' ranks all models on sale in Singapore, and the Saab 9-5 was favorably compared with the Audi A6 and BMW 535i in the Executive Sedan class."
Jonas Hernqvist, Saab Regional Manager for the Asian markets, also commented: "We are very happy. The markets in Asia are demanding and Singapore especially so, since it so restrictive when it comes to car imports. Therefore it is particularly gratifying and encouraging that the Saab 9-5 is honored in this way."
